Soccer Saturdays No More...At Least For Shayli!

What an exciting weekend we just had. Soccer Saturday was full of its usual craziness, especially Shayli's game. Shayli was playing a big rival team and her team really wanted to win this one. Things looked really good when one of her teammates scored a goal within the first couple minutes of the game. A few minutes later, Shayli made an awesome move and got a breakaway to the goal. Just as she was getting ready to take the shot, some crazy girl came up from behind her and did an illegal slide tackle. They both went down and the girl went down right on Shay's right arm. This is what it looked like on the x-ray...

Both bones totally snapped. I've never seen quite a deformed arm before and it was quite gross. It even got more exciting when they called the ambulance. Shayli was so lucky because two of her friends that play with her have dads who are EMT's. They were both there and quickly got Shayli in a make shift splint. She then was driven away in the ambulance....sirens and all! Here she is with Bryan a dad of a boy in her class. So she was obviously in good hands the whole time.

When we got to the ER she was feeling pretty miserable. All she was worried about was letting down her team. She was hoping so bad that they won. She definitely has a look of pain on her face, but it's mostly waiting to hear how her team did. The final outcome was 9-0 for Shayli's team!! She was so happy and relaxed a little bit after she heard.

Well, to make matters worse, this happened the day before her 12th birthday. She was so excited to graduate from primary and go to YW. We still had a family dinner for her and she was all smiles. I think she was glad to have something else to think about other than her arm.

Monday morning took us to the orthopedic surgeon to get her all casted up. Well, to our dismay they never set her arm at the ER and so it was off to surgery early Tuesday morning. They had to rebreak it to set it right since it had already started to heal. We didn't know for sure if they were going to have to open her arm up because one of the breaks were so bad. It was very nerve racking, but Shayli stayed so strong. I got a picture of her right before they took her to the O.R. She was resting and I was so happy about that.

The good news.....They didn't have to open her arm up. YAY!! They ended up trying three time to set it right and they finally got it. I'm so glad she was knocked out. When she came out of it in recovery she was all smiles as you can see. She was so glad to have this part over with.

So, now she has a full arm cast for the next 3-4 weeks. Soccer is definitely out, as well as piano. She is bummed about piano, but VERY mad about soccer. She was telling me the other day that she hopes she doesn't run into the girl that did this. If she saw her that girl better run the other way. She'll probably have a smaller cast for 3-4 weeks also. So for about 6-8 weeks Shayli is going to be a lefty. It sucks so bad to have this happen, especially on her birthday, but I've learned what a tough little cookie she is. I've been really proud of how she's handled it. A few tears have been shed. Mostly because she really wants to play, but we've promised to take her to all the games and to watch practice. She's such a die hard. Hope this never happens again. I don't think I could handle it! :)

Soccer Saturdays & More.....

Well soccer Saturdays are in full swing! And at our house we just love this time of year. The time of year when we eat, sleep and breathe soccer, literally! We are now in our third week of the fall season and I finally remembered my camera. I got a few shots of the girls and their teams and then we all enjoyed a couple of great soccer games. Shayli's team had a great game. They played one of their big rival teams and won big time. I think the score was 9-0. Shayli's team is so fun to watch. They have no subs and have to play the whole game, but they play so well together. The other teams coach was so mad because of the score, but Coach Mary had the girls playing all different positions. Shayli even played goalie one quarter, but didn't even touch the ball once. Out of the nine girls on her team five different girls scored. It didn't matter where Coach Mary put them, they played awesome. Shayli didn't have her best game, but considering she had just got over the flu, we gave her a break. :)

Now, Kyndra's team is the Bad News Bears of soccer. It could be her coach, but this past weekend we made progress. We finally got our first goal of the season. YAY!! And we didn't even lose, we tied the game 2-2. Kyndra had the biggest smile after the game and couldn't wait to call Grandpa Keith and tell him how she did. She played goalie one quarter and didn't let any through. She was so proud of herself!! Coach Mom was very proud of her too. She played hard every quarter she was in and even ran hard this weekend too, which is very unusal for Kyndra. She doesn't like to run to much in soccer. Her whole point in being there is to be with her friends and socialize. She plays soccer for totally different reasons than Shayli. Shayli is a die hard, Kyndra is a social bug. But both are very, very fun to watch for very, very different reasons. So all in all it was a successful soccer Saturday.
Now, after we got home, of course we were all tired, so we kind of layed around for a little while. It was then that I realized how quiet it was.....too quiet. Lynzee is definitely not a quiet girl and she had already had her nap, so I knew I needed to go and hunt for her. This is where I found her!
She was a happy as she could be! I'm sure it was nice and cool in there, especially on that very hot day we had. When I look at that smile, I wonder how could you not love this girl! She has definitely brought a great spark to our family. We have moments like these with her all the time. I'm just glad I was able to capture this one. She is so spoiled, but oh-well!
I didn't get any pictures of Shane this weekend. He of course does his best to stay away from the camera. But he definitely helps me survive weekends like we just had. I couldn't do it without him. Glad I found one of the great ones!!

Don't Die Of Shock!!!

I was realizing this morning that it has been quite a while since I've posted anything, so thought I would finally do it today. School has been up and running for a month now and all is going well. Shayli loves her new school. She has already learned so much and we now really really appreciate the value of good teachers. What a difference they make! Kyndra is loving the second grade and has found a new love....the Boxcar Children books. She has always liked reading, but now she is really liking it. Lynzee FINALLY got tooth number four this past week. Yes, she is almost 16 months and only has four teeth. I HATE TEETHING!! She has been so grouchy this past week, so I'm hoping that more teeth are on the way and we get over this fun part of being a mom. Shane still works his guts out. If he isn't at work, he's working on the farm, and if he isn't at the farm, he's working out. It's hard not to love this hardworking buff guy. :) I have once again gotten myself into coaching Kyndra's soccer team. I think we may have another one of those seasons, but I'm hoping for at least one win this year. :) Shayli said I shouldn't ruin a good record. HA HA Shayli!! So all in all, life is treating us pretty good. I'm already counting down for summer. Only 8 months and a few days until we get to Utah.....WOO HOO!! Can't wait to see everyone!!

Gotta Love Spring....

Well spring is in full bloom over here, which means soccer, Easter, more soccer and the same weather as usual. We had a fun Easter weekend that started off with soccer of course. Shayli had two games and played well in both of them. She had a game in Waimea and we always figure it will be cold, windy and rainy there, so we usually plan on watching the game from the truck. Well, this weekend it was beautiful. Bright blue skies, beautiful yellow flowers everywhere and horses, which is the only reason why Kyndra will go to Waimea. Well, to make a long story short.....Shayli had a great game, scored all three goals and they won. Kyndra played with the horses and Lynzee was in heaven just being outside, so of course that meant I forgot the camera. I was so mad. Oh well, I made up for it on Easter Sunday. Lynzee wasn't to keen on the Easter eggs, but Shayli and Kyndra seemed to still enjoy them. Shane even convinced Shayli to eat a duck egg. Shayli almost puked. It was so funny. Kyndra wanted all the eggs for pets and thinks we are so mean to eat them. She will be the next PETA President. All in all it was a great weekend. We enjoyed a nice Easter dinner with Shane's family, but I still missed mine. Even though the seasons really never change over here, I still love the spring!!

And the Next American Idol Is......

We had a Ward talent show/Chilli Cook Off last week and Kyndra & Shayli really wanted to participate in it. Of course Kyndra wanted to sing and she sang a song from the movie Esther. We were pretty proud of her. She did a great job. Shayli has sworn off a singing career so she made chilli. It was really good and she made it all herself. She even put chocolate in it. I didn't even think of getting a picture of it. It didn't win, but it was very tasty. Anyway, this is just one of those blogs were I brag about my kids. I hope you enjoy Kyndra's song.

Trying to catch up!!

It's been so long since I've really blogged anything. Life just gets crazy, and things like blogs get forgotten about. Spring soccer is in full swing and both Shayli and Kyndra are involved. Nothing like being a soccer mom. Shayli is hoping for a succesful spring season and really wants to beat the Kona Eagles. A boys team she playes and they beat Shayli's team at their last meeting. She was also accepted to West Hawaii Explorations Academy for next school year and is very excited about that. After this past school year I think she would be excited for anything else. Kyndra is excited about soccer, but not for the same reasons Shayli is. She gets to play with boys on her team this season and is looking forward to the socializing part more than the playing part. She never cares who wins, she just wants to be friends with everyone. Lynzee is 10 months already and cruising all over this place. Can't belive she is almost a year already. She is quite the roly poly and eats everything. She sees it, she eats it. She has no teeth yet, but that doesn't stop her. Her favorite thing to eat is Daddys peeled tangerines. So spoiled already. Shane never stops working and I feel lazy after I see the days he puts in. So I guess that makes me spoiled too. Hawaii has been rainy and cold the last couple of weeks and Lynzee and I love when the sun comes out. We both hate staying in the house all day. Believe it or not Shayli did play basketball with an intermural team at school this past week. I was shocked!! Her friends needed another player to make a team and so Shay said she would. I snuck down to the gym to watch her play because this might never happen again and figured I would get a good laugh, but to my surprise she did pretty well. Even scored the first basket for her team. Oh, Kyndra lost her first tooth and thinks she is quite the grown up kid now. How fast they grow. Anyway, all is well in Hawaii and we look forward to what lies ahead for us!!
